Renewed Attention . . .
Whether begging is truly on the rise or there are simply more people are attuned to it, the issue prompted leaders from the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association to convened Wednesday evening for a special forum. It brought together social workers, mental health and addiction specialists, church leaders and a prosecutor who handles the brunt of Hartford’s panhandling charges.

It brought together social workers, mental health and addiction specialists, church leaders and a prosecutor who handles the brunt of Hartford’s panhandling charges.
“We’ve perceived
there to be an increase in panhandling in our neighborhood,” said Cathy Zeiner,
chief operating officer of the YWCA on Broad Street, which hosted the forum.
“There’s been an
uptick, although it’s nothing on the level of what New York, San Francisco or
Seattle are seeing,” said Jordan Polon, executive director of the Hartford
Business Improvement District. “But it’s all relative. Panhandling is
panhandling, and people are seeing it in their community.” - SEE THE REST OF THE STORY HERE
